personality.
An eccentric with a penchant for casting caution to the wind, Mary lives out the remainder of her days without aim, save for seeking out the next fun thing to bring her stimulation. For all her childish faults, they at least carry her pleasantly through any conversation. She greets everyone amiably and, in turn, it's easy enough for any walk of life get along with her, so long as they look past the... naive faux pas. It's almost remarkable that she's survived this long.
Despite this, she seems a lot older than she lets on. Past all the dick jokes, her years—or lack thereof—fracture the fantastical front, revealing a latent affliction and a shattered mind.

❞Something else, something within, dies in the moments after. Yet, death breathes life anew. A new presence to shuffle off this mortal coil.
summary.
After waking up with a sizeable gap in her memory and a sense she was on the brink of oblivion, Mary had gotten back onto her feet, not to retrace her steps, but to explore the greater world she had grown up sheltered from, going down a great list of must-do's. Equipped with a journal and a definitely-not-stolen sack of gil in her satchel, she often roamed from city to city in her dress and heels, and spent her coin frivolously to see Eorzea's sights and sounds. However, she has since acquired a bit more stability in her routine and anchored herself down somewhere nostalgic, not seen too far from the side of a certain medic.
❞but they said YOU WOULD DO MORE. the reason you were locked away in the gilded cage, fed and coddled and shielded from prying eyes: to become a reservoir, neither tapped nor sullied, for your one-day potential. to prove a point. FOR THEM.
distinguishing aspects.
— Finding the half-Raen with a smudge of crimson beneath her chin and nose is not an uncommon sight. On closer inspection, shards of orange crystal rest in her gloved palm after a fit—the same which tend to break off her skin after extensive combat.
— Though Mary goes to great lengths to keep it hidden from herself and others, a healed web of welts is scattered along her back, along with three socket-shaped depressions (the latter being an earlier injury, it seems).
— Beyond her limbal rings, a bizarre and bright glow is washed over her eyes, the color itself akin to the volatile orange hue a crystal takes on when pulled to an extreme elemental charge.
— Born to a Hyuran pirate and his rogue courtesan partner, this Au Ra only reflects her father in the color of her hair and her completely plain, unscaled skin. At least, almost completely... The vestiges of her Raen mother shine through the lone scale of her forehead, her horns, and her embarrassingly small tail.
— This one has acquired many odd eccentricities, from the way she emulates faerie tale maidens and knights, to the odd inability to control the volume of her flowery voice. But, when the seeming facade crumbles, she'll tug on her clothes and scratch at her skin.
— Apart from Thanalan, Mary is hardly ever seen without the deep blue bow dangling behind her head. This color scheme often extends to her very attire, something she'd attribute blissfully to "the most comely lady in all the lands!"
❞under lock and key, did you lose sight of what you wanted? whatever it was, you’re older and you’ve forgotten. now—more than ever—blinded, screaming, “I'D BE BETTER IF ONLY I WERE MORE LIKE YOU."

Hooks & Rumors.

Affliction
(SOUL OF PYRITE)
To the outside observer, Mary looks to be suffering from naught more than a worrying case of anemia. But were Auri eyes always so bright? An amber-gold haze seems to have permeated her pupils, flickering and wavering and unstable as they flitter over things. To those with aether sight, however, the windows are but a drop in the water compared to the soul they reflect: a woman not long for this world, corruption rotting away holes within her soul, and a great portion of her damaged irreversibly.

Ilsabardian
(ULTRAMARINE; IN THE BIRDCAGE)
Nearly two decades ago in the coastal town of Terncliff, the 'Sapphire Siren' (merely a noteless courtesan, she'd tell you personally) bore a child in secret within her house─a secret she'd guard well from both Garlean forces and clients alike. Within a glorified closet there, little hands, etching at white brick and holding dear faerie tales, would remain sheltered from the greater world for a seemingly impossible infinitude, watching as it went by.

Odd jobs
(CHIAROSCURO)
Mary has accrued a handful of experience taking part in Eorzea's inner workings, most from random work for local businesses she'd pass through. Though, she often neglects to mention the majority were "landed" lying through her teeth about documents, bribing with coin, or posing as another worker. From playing shopkeep to serving, then exiting in pursuit of her next interest without so much as a word, needless to say, she's upset a few others─if they are aware of what happened at all.

Garlean Subject
(MAGNUM OPUS)
Snow. Endless fields of snow, towering walls of metal. A warmed drink, and an ever-smiling face... These, the puzzle pieces Mary might never complete the greater memory of. And yet, despite this bout of sustained amnesia, her overaspected eyes and pallid skin might seem vaguely familiar to old soldiers, conscripts, or prisoners. But, in every meaningful aspect, now stands before you a different person. It seems this one was a repurposed experiment... And a pathetic reject, at that.
GUIDELINES.
PLEASE KEEP IN MIND

Mary is available for in-character interaction! You are completely free to talk to Mary or send a /tell my way. If I fail to reply, don't be afraid to poke me privately.

I don't keep FFXIV running unless I plan on coming back in the 30 next minutes. Feel free to wait around until I come back or message me if I'm unavailable.
Violence (✔) ERP/Smut (✖) Read and respect! I always read and follow everyone's bios and rules, provided they're somewhere! I hope that you'll treat me with the same respect in return. 18+! Mary deals with dark themes in her story (and has a bawdy sense of humor, among other things) and it bleeds into her interactions. Some situations can get very heavy, so I ask that my roleplay partners be of age. But please don't be afraid to tell me about any limits, I'm completely fine with writing around it! Patience! I prefer para RP, and I tend to mirror. However, reading and writing can be challenging for me as I process information differently. Brain fog hits me out of the blue nowadays. Please be patient if I'm taking a while to reply. :[ Walk-up friendly! I welcome walk-ups and interactions! I slightly prefer meaningful long-term plots so that both our characters may benefit (e.g. Develop/Bond), but I am not against casual interactions. No metagaming! She's a fun little puzzle, but please respect what is known about Mary OOCly should stay OOC unless pre-established. Semi-lore abiding! Though I personally prefer to tread as closely to canon as I can with my characters, I don't turn my nose at others who flex and bend it. But, I ask that you don't approach Mary with crack RP, such as mentioning modern terms to her... "Meme." Safe space! This should go without saying, but I refuse to write with transphobic, homophobic, or racist people. Bigotry begone.
Thank you for taking the time to read about Mary! I have been developing her for like... 8 years now. If you enjoyed reading my carrd, think she could fit into your story, or just want to pull aside and talk, feel free to /tell me!
I am just a little nerd, I promise I'm not scary <3
